My approach to working with clients is down-to-earth, flexible, and I’ve been known to use humor at times to break through negative patterns and behaviors that can cause barriers to growth. I have found a lighter approach can help clients to feel more relaxed in opening up about the painful experiences that have held them back.
Through a space of warmth and safety, my goal is to provide therapy that is uplifting and encouraging, as I truly believe that each of us have the capacity to grow and flourish in a positive direction if we have the support we need. I strive to make my clients feel comfortable enough to be themselves and express their hurts and doubts, while also challenging them to develop the confidence and strength to make decisions to live their best life.
I have witnessed transformation occur in my clients when they come into the therapy process motivated, they exhibit open-ness to trust the process, and they are willing to test out new ways of thinking and behaving that might be out of their normal comfort zone.
People tell me I am different than other therapists they have had, as I have a refreshing approach that makes them hopeful and excited for the future. I provide feedback to my clients rather than “just listening”, I make them feel comfortable even when they are talking about things they have never told someone else before, and I teach them how to move forward in their life rather than dwelling on the past.
Current clients say I have helped them learn to focus on the aspects of their life they can control, rather than getting stuck on things they can’t change, like negative situations, their past, or toxic people. As a result, my clients express that their life begins to shift in a positive direction once they have begun to not only believe, but also see that they have the power and tools to create a meaningful and gratifying life.
